Note 1:
In some cases the size, padding etc. of a replaced inline element has an influence on the size of the containing block, i.e. if the containing block is floated. (this is not about non-replaced inline elements.) The inline elements' margins are influenced by the size of the containing block thus in the above scenario they would be indirectly influenced by the dimensions of the inline element itself. Some browsers seem to work out the inline element's margins with respect to the width of the parent element of its containing block.

IE/Win 6 seems to calculate the % values for padding with respect to the width of an ancester of the containing block.

This is similar to the problem described in Note 1, only here the padding of the replaced inline element is concerned.

Note 5:
MS IE 6.0 renders borders with the border style of 'inset/outset' in a way that is very similar to 'groove/ridge'. This may look alright, but IMCO it's a deviation from the W3C box model specs — look it up here or here.

Note 6:
MS IE 6.0 isn't able to render a border as 'dotted' if its border-width is '1px'.

Note 7:
NN 4.8 renders the border shorthand o.k. as long as a border-style is used which that browser can understand — which is just plain 'solid'.
