In CSS 2.1, these values are no longer part of the specs as they were in CSS 2.
Note 1:
These tests have been done using fonts that provide both an 'oblique' version and an 'italic' version as well as fonts that don't provide either. In the latter case Mozilla seems to do the slanting (if 'oblique' is specified) itself.
Note 2:
Opera 6 and 7 on the other hand seem to revert to the inherited font in case an italic/oblique version isn't available.
Note 3:
Browsers distinguish between those numbers to a varying degree but at this stage it isn't worth putting up extra rows for each number.
Note 4:
'Ex' seems to be rendered as 0.5×1em or 50% which may be close but it's not entirely correct. Anyway, if all other units are rendered correctly this is pretty minor so I left the 'Y' in.
Note 5:
'Medium' and 'larger' look pretty much the same in IE/win 6.
